Experience is not reliable, at least not for movies. When viewers are disappointed time after time by wretched sequels to a fine work, who would have thought that Toy Story 3 would touch on something so deep that you might be caught in a dilemma?

Toy Story 3 is probably the last outing for Woody and Buzz on the big screen. So the ambivalence here derives from our unwillingness to bid farewell to the lovely toys that come alive when you turn about, and also from us knowing that it should end this way.

It's been more than a decade since the last film, and something is destined to happen: 17-year-old Andy is about to attend college, leaving the future of his toy-box gang uncertain.
However, as Andy decides to put his loyal toy friends into the attic, his mother accidentally dumps them as rubbish and by accident the creatures are sent to a kindergarten, where they meet a pink, strawberry-scented bear called Lots-o'-Huggin'.

No sooner have they arrived at this "new home" that they realize the place is a virtual prison, controlled by the relentless bear. At this point you would be forgiven for thinking that an animated version of Prison Break is about to begin.

A Pixar movie often has sufficient magic to fix itself in kids' minds, at the same time touching the innocent part in the hearts of grown-ups. No matter how old you are, for an adult viewer watching Toy Story 3 is to say goodbye to your childhood in an informal yet memorable way. The finale of this trilogy even works better on adults than children, as a good number of them may sniffle while the kids may look up and murmur to themselves "Blimey! Grown-ups are so weird!"

The genius of the Toy Story movies is that they are rooted in a kid's fantasy, but they connect with mature minds more tightly, as adults often feel regret about the loss of their childhood and often hope to get it back. It is like fanning the breeze to ramble on about the amazing technology of Pixar. But facilitated by some great techniques, Toy Story 3 helps us fantasize the past and come closer to that pure and joyful stage of life - childhood, just for a short while.

Goodbye, toys! And thank you, Pixar!
