I guess I admired her painting somewhere before. Apart from the feeling it was pretty breathtaking, I couldn't really see anything more to it. Until I watched this film tonight. She is such a character! Bold and sexy, very talented but impulsive, fearless and so authentic. She experienced unimaginable pain through her whole life, yet her life is marvelously unique from others, she used all pieces of her paints as an exit of all the agony, through them, the audience seems to understand how much pain that she was bearing, and looks like it helped transfer some of the them even. I particularly like how her husband described her works “Her work is acid and tender, hard as steel, and fine as a butterfly’s wing, loveable as a smile, cruel as the bitterness of life, I don’t believe that ever before has a woman put such agonized poetry on canvas” Some of the techniques the director used are rather artistic, well responding to this movie’s theme.
