about ...Mr. West... just some thoughts and not formal at all.
1. Use cross cutting to make the plot more intense 2. knows how to create suspense (a bit like what Hitchcock explains) 3. the speed-up of certain scenes (such as when Mr. West dresses up to flee) show director's intensions of leading audiences’ feelings. Achieving a realization that this is not a replication of reality. it's more than/different from true reality. Cinema is only partial illusion (is Arnheim influenced by Kuleshov?) 4. we are not emotionally aligning with anyone (for some reasons). Why??? why we dont feel sad/happy but only feel entertained 5. Rear projection in the end, which is pioneering 6. Kuleshov effect: to create an active audience, the audience is expected to be actively drawing their own individual conclusions about certain plot or scene. Montage editing is used to link two separate things and audience should make up in their heads of what the directors mean. Ex: final parade is not shot by Kuleshov but is used here.
是否是在anti-propaganda,为了catering俄国政府?最后的阅兵截取自新闻which is what the goverment wants people to think of Russia and might not be true, kuleshov是否在拒绝picture自己心中的Russia?与美国人的爱国主义进行对照。我们是否都在被manipulate
