Never have I been so athrill with a movie before gaining an opportunity to encounter Unbowed, though I have watched The Attorney sometime earlier. The main plots involved in these two movies are irrefutably the same, that is, an attorney offered assistance to the defendant(s) being deliberately wronged, the purpose of which is to denounce the injustice of the government from a judical perspective. Both movies are based on true events; however, The Attorney places more emphasis on the dictatorship of the military government and the advocation for the past president, with its background set in the sanguinary age of the 1980s, whereas Unbowed introduces a contemporary story that took its place in the 21st century, evoking more realistic empathy from the public in that such a corrupted system is shared by all with no escape possible.
Kim, at first glance, seemed to be nothing more than an ordinary citizen just like everyone else, yet the clear distinction between him and others lied in his attitude towards justice and rule of law. In a society where judges abuse power for their selfish goals, attorneys regard law merely as a tool and justice conceals its trails, Kim held firmly that whatever law is enacted should be considered sacred and must be strictly obeyed. As a professor specializing in mathematics, he believed that the inevitability of logic should work similarly in the field of law. Despite his identification as a layman for law, he spared no effort to learn every relevant legal article by heart even in detention and threw potent questions at the judges in the court, creating an effect like "beating them in the face". He will never be forgotten for his unswerving expression when saying "I refuse to accept this current trial" aloud in public.
