Bones has always been one of my favorite TV shows. The main reason is that I like to see how Bones a scientist who believes in data and facts interact with Booth, an FBI agent who catches bad guys with his instinct. Today I was rewatching Bones on netflix while I was cooking, when I was caught again by the story in episode 11.
A car was burnt and there was a woman's body in it. What makes everyone nervous is that there is also a child safety seat in the car----so a kid was missing. Later they identified the woman's husband is a witness for a crime group and his IQ is as high as 163. The hypothesis here is that the crime group is trying to stop the witness to testify by killing his wife and kidnapping his son.
So Agent Booth asked Zack, Dr.Bones' intern what would he do if he's in this situation since he has the same IQ level. Both Zack and Bones said: but IQ is not a variable here. It depends on what kind of person he is. Instead, they asked Booth to imagine what he would do if his son got kidnapped because they were both caring fathers.
"Be rational", that's what Bone told the father. Indeed, being rational is the best solution in many circumstances. But even with a extremely high IQ, one can not pulling himself/herself back from being evolved. In fact, sometimes even Bones and Zack got emotionally attached to the bones they are examining. As human beings, we are assumed to be rational if we want to maximize our utility. However, it's the heart who dominates; also, it's the heart that is difficult to predict. Instead of a robot, it's the heart that keeps us as human beings.
