上个周末，我看了一部关于一家独立唱片店的纪录片。Other Music Record，是曾位于纽约东村的唱片店，以售卖前卫的实验性的小众唱片而被广大乐迷视为“圣地”。开业于1995的 Other Music，在持续了二十年的经营后，于2016年结束营业，这部纪录片就是关于它的生平传记。

上世纪九十年代，数字音乐浪潮来临的前夕，正是实体唱片的黄金时代。彼时的唱片业零售巨头 Tower Records 如日中天，它家位于百老汇大街、占据整整四层楼的旗舰店就是唱片时代最辉煌的印证。就是在这样的背景下，Other Music 不怕死地把店面选在了 Tower Records 旗舰店的正对面，颇有小矮人大战巨龙的勇气。就连店名也充满挑衅意味，言外之意，这里出售一切 Tower Records 没有的唱片。事实证明，这个策略非常正确。

那时，如果你想寻找一些不一样（更具挑战性，更复杂，更深奥）的音乐，那么 Other Music 就是你该去的地方。很长一段时间，这里都是纽约仅有的可以淘到一些伟大但是商业上不成功的唱片。从自由爵士、某些世界音乐，到德国酸菜摇滚、被遗忘很久的民谣，纽约有趣的年轻人在这里贪婪地汲取独立音乐的滋养。

除此之外，Other Music 还以与独立音乐人和厂牌的亲密关系闻名。它从很早就开始支持纽约当地的乐队，帮助他们销售自制专辑并举办店内表演。有些乐队在日后获得了很大的成功，比如 Vampire Weekend, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Interpol 等等。

2016年，连年下降的营业额和日益上涨的房租压力，迫使 Other Music 关闭了实体店，仅保留线上邮购服务。实体唱片业的衰落是不可抵挡的浪潮，没有谁能抵挡。尽管如此，我们还是要给 Other Music 献上足够的敬意，因为要知道，曾经的唱片业巨无霸 Tower Records 早在2006年就宣告破产。某种程度上说，小矮人最终战胜了巨龙。

作为一个独立音乐爱好者，我对 Other Music 在这二十年时间的销售榜单非常感兴趣，而店主也非常懂大家的心思，在官网放出了下面这份「Other Music 最畅销一百张唱片」名单。可以这么说，这是一份过去二十年纽约最酷的最前卫的年轻人的歌单，希望能给你的歌单加点新鲜的不一样的声音。
